Wedding Dresses - More Than Just White

Venus Bridal, wedding dresses, bridal gowns
Ivory White
People expect to see brides in white when they walk down the aisle. Many times the wedding dress that they assume is white is actually one of the many shades that only appear white to the untrained eye. Venus Bridal offers many of our bridal gowns in a few different shades.

Bright white is not an easy color for most women to pull off. Many skin tones can be overpowered by the stark color. Choosing a nearly-white shade for your wedding dress will allow you to find a color that will bring your skin tone alive and show off its natural glow. Below we have listed a few of the different shades of white that you will find while bridal gown shopping, as well as the skin tones that they most often flatter.

Bright White
This is the whitest white that you will find. Fabrics that are stark white nearly glow, which makes it unflattering to many skin tones. This is the hardest shade to wear. The brightness can cause your skin to appear to lose color. Usually, only women with darker skin tones can pull off a bright white gown.

Natural White
Also sometimes referred to as silk white, this color is a shade off of bright white due to the natural fibers of the material that the dress is made out of. It may still appear to be a bright white in photographs, but it is a lot more flattering to many skin tones. You can really only see the difference in bright and natural whites when they are held next to each other.

Ivory
This shade is extremely flattering on a wide variety of skin tones, and you will find a lot of varying shades in the ivory family. Hints of yellow undertones in some ivories will give the dress color a creamy appearance. Other ivories may have a pinker tint to them. Fair to medium skin tones look wonderful in most ivory gowns.

Champagne
This "white" will have slight pink or gold undertones. It is lighter than the drink it is named for, yet close to the darkest shade of ivory. Olive skin tones look beautiful in this shade, as do other darker skin tones.

Pops of Color
There is absolutely no rule that says you have to wear any shade of white when you get married. You are free to wear any color that makes your heart happy. There are plenty of brides that go for a mostly "white" wedding dress, but add pops of color with their accessories, like a bridal sash or shoes.

Ivory with a romantique/silver color accent
When you begin shopping for a wedding dress, hold the different shades up to your skin to find the one that looks the most flattering on you. The shade of your bridal gown will make a huge difference in the final look, and simply going a shade lighter or darker could completely change how you feel about a specific dress.

Venus Bridal offers a lovely variety of wedding dress shades, styles, shapes, fabrics, and so much more. We strive to create a diverse mixture of designs so that every woman will have lots of gowns to choose from. Everyone deserves to look and feel their most glamorous on their wedding day.

Bridal Belts & Waist Sashes Take Your Wedding Dress to Another Level

Once you have decided on the perfect silhouette for the best wedding dress for your body, it's time to accessorize that bridal gown and bring some of your own personal style to the overall look. One excellent accessory to do exactly that is one of the beautiful bridal belts or waist sashes from Venus Bridal

Made for each other
When chosen correctly, this particular wedding dress accessory will look as if it is a part of the original dress rather than an added piece. A very large percentage of brides begin the personalization of their bridal gown with a lovely accent around the waist. The key, as with any accessory, is to find elements that tie into your dress's overall look. Find a belt with details that flow with the gown's fabric and accents.

Glamorous upgrade
The simple addition of a bridal belt or waist sash can do many things. For a plain gown, it can add a touch of sparkle and bling, and for dress that is all lace from top to bottom, it can elegantly break up the pattern. These accessories are wonderful for accentuating your waist and bust too, depending on where you decide to position the belt. Some styles can even give you a longer, thinner appearance.

Add a pop of color
If you happen to be the type of bride that would like to add a touch of color to the traditional white/ivory wedding dress, a sash is an excellent way to do this. It brings a touch of fun and whimsy to your style, and makes a beautiful background to all types of other accents, like beads, rhinestones, flowers, and lace.

Truly make it your own
Two different women may decide on the exact same wedding dress, but the way that they choose to accessorize it can dramatically alter the final look, making it their very own, one-of-a-kind gown. Where sparkly belts can add drama, lace can bring a romantic feel, and flowers may give the dress a bit of vintage charm. The sash or belt around the waist of your bridal gown will help to convey the look and feel that you are going for.

Venus Bridal has your look!
The timeless wedding dress styles that we have to offer are matched in beauty by our magnificent bridal belts and waist sashes. You will be able to find the perfect style you are striving for from our Venus Bridal collections. No matter which accessories that you decide on, they will be perfect because they are all yours.

Don't Be Fooled By Counterfeit Dresses

Counterfeit dresses in the fashion industry are a huge problem. Venus Bridal is a well-trusted company that features only the very best wedding dresses and special occasion gowns from talented designers. Occasionally, untrustworthy stores will try to sell a knock-off of one of our gowns and pass it off as the real thing. That results in very unhappy brides, and it throws a big wrench in your wedding planning.

This blog is meant to help you spot these imposters and avoid an unnecessary disaster. It is much easier to recognize a fake in person, but if you choose to order a dress online, you won't be able to see the inferior quality until it's too late. Here are some ways for you to avoid being fooled by a counterfeit dress.

Check the Venus Bridal Website
The most important thing to do before you buy any type of brand-name special occasion dress is to make sure that the store you are purchasing it from is authorized to sell for that company. The "Where To Buy" page on our website lists the stores that carry authentic Venus Bridal fashions. All you have to do is type in your location and the distance you are willing to travel to shop, and a list of authorized dealers and their contact information will be at your fingertips. If you do not see a business that you are searching for, you can send us a message through the contact page on our website or email us at sales@VenusBridal.com. We will let you know if they are a reliable source.

Check the Reviews
You can learn a lot about a business from the comments their customers make about them. There are many review sites, like Wedding Wire and The Knot, where you can find honest opinions from brides that have dealt with that company. Lots of happy reviews will let you know that this company will most likely deliver on their promises, but a string of unhappy customer comments reveals an obvious problem. You are probably safer going to another vendor.

Check the Contact Information
When you order anything online, you want to be able to get in contact with the seller in case you have any problems or questions. A lack of clear contact information, or no contact information at all, is a warning sign that once these people have your money, you are stuck with whatever they send you, good or bad.

Check That The Price Isn't Too Good To Be True
Gorgeous gowns can sometimes be found on a clearance rack or sample sale. This isn't because there is anything wrong with the dresses, but the store simply needs room for the new arrivals. That's an excellent way to get a designer dress at a great price.

On the other hand, if a deal seems too good to be true, then it probably is. Any time that you find a designer dress being sold for 50% or more off of the suggested price, take a very close look at it. Knock-off dresses can be sold with a much cheaper price tag because they are made with inferior fabrics and low quality sewing. In most cases, you get what you pay for. If the price is extremely low, it's probably not real.

Avoid a Wedding Day Disaster
Saving a little money is not a good thing if it causes a big problem for your wedding. There are cases all over the internet of brides telling how the dress that they ordered looked nothing like the one that showed up on their doorstep. Fake gowns often show up made of different materials than promised, and many times even in the wrong color. Sizing is a problem too.

Having a qualified seamstress fix those mistakes will usually end up costing you more than the real dress would have cost at full price. Unless you are lucky enough to find something last-minute on the sample rack, a wedding dress takes a long time to special order. You may not have enough time to order a new gown to replace the disaster that showed up from the bad company.

It's always better to be safe than sorry. If you keep an eye out for the warning signs above and visit VenusBridal.com to make sure the bridal boutique that you are shopping at is an authorized dealer, then you will have nothing to worry about. They will make sure that the most beautiful wedding dress that you found on our website goes home with you, and your wedding day fashion goes off without a hitch.

Your Guide to Wedding Dress Silhouettes

Wedding dresses come in a large variety of styles and shapes. Lots of little details come together to create the final look, and every finished bridal gown is slightly different than the next. One very important detail is the the silhouette of the dress.

Once you find the perfect wedding dress silhouette, it is much easier to narrow down your choices. Venus Bridal has put together a few examples of the more popular bridal gown shapes so you may begin thinking about which type you will try on first.

Sheath
This type of gown flows straight down from the neckline to the hem. In some cases this silhouette lends to a more casual look, but it can also gives off a very seductive aura. This type of dress shows off your natural shape and can have a lengthening effect on your body.

Empire
An empire silhouette is fitted until just below the bust, giving it a high-waisted appearance. The skirt then flows loosely to the ground.

Sheath  -  Empire
Fit & Flare
Form-fitting at the top, this dress gradually flares out, down to the floor. It is wonderful for showing off your shape while still allowing a loose fit around the legs.

Trumpet
A trumpet silhouette fits snugly to your body at the top, then dramatically flares out about mid-thigh.

Mermaid
This is much like the trumpet shape above, but mermaid gowns are fitted down to the knee, then flare out from there.

Fit & Flare   -   Trumpet    -   Mermaid
A-Line
The bodice of these gowns are fitted to the waist, and the skirt then gradually flows out. This silhouette was given its name due to the "A" shape that is formed with the skirt.

Ball Gown
A ball gown is also fitted to the waist, but instead of flowing, the skirt flares out for a much fuller look. This is a timeless silhouette, reminiscent of a princess straight out of a fairy tale, both dramatic and romantic.

A-line   -   Ball Gown
Tea Length
For the bride that prefers a shorter wedding dress, a tea length gown's hem will fall somewhere between the ankle and the knee. Wonderful for a casual wedding or an outdoor ceremony where you do not want your dress dragging on the ground.

Which silhouette will you start with?
This guide should help you find a place to start when you visit your local bridal boutique to try on wedding dresses. Don't limit yourself though. You never know exactly how you will feel about a bridal gown until you have it on. Start by trying on the different silhouettes. Once you have a favorite, you can then begin searching through our Venus Bridal collections for the other important details, like neckline and fabric. Gradually, that dream wedding dress you have been imagining will come to life.

Holiday Weddings - Yay or Nay?

Labor Day Weekend has brought up a subject at Venus Bridal that people seem to have varying opinions on - holiday weddings. There are many pros and cons to planning your ceremony and reception during a holiday weekend.

On one hand, a holiday with a 3-day weekend allows you extra time to celebrate, plus most venues already have some decor of their own up. On the other hand, a lot of people look at holidays as family time, and working someone else's wedding into those plans may not be their idea of fun. We've come up with a few tips for any brides and grooms that may want to host a holiday wedding that will help everyone to enjoy themselves.

Definitely Send Save-The-Dates
Most people make special plans when a holiday rolls around. If you want them to make your wedding a part of those plans, you will need to give them plenty of advance notice. These may require a little more information than simply the date. Hotels, airlines, and car rental businesses get busier during holidays, so you will want to let your guests know where the wedding will take place so that they can make arrangements to get there.

Block Hotel Rooms Early
As we mentioned, hotels get busy during holidays and many tend to sell out of rooms. Make sure that you have enough rooms set aside for your guests early on so that they don't risk not having a place to stay. Hopefully, if you are booking enough rooms, you can work out a discount on them, because hotel rates generally go up during holidays.

Incorporate Holiday Traditions
A complaint from guests is that they have to miss out on their holiday traditions if they have to go to a wedding. One way to keep them happy is to somehow work those traditions into your wedding. If you get married on the 4th of July, plan to have a big fireworks display during the reception. If your wedding is on Thanksgiving weekend, incorporate turkey, stuffing, cranberries, and the like into your menu. Don't go overboard, because the main focus should be the wedding, but try to bring in that holiday feel in a tasteful and fun way.

Expect That Some Won't Be Able To Come
Prepare yourself for quite a few "no" RSVPs if you will get married around a big holiday, like Christmas or Thanksgiving. These are generally spent with family, and while your own family may be able to make the adjustment, some of your friends may not be able to be away from their own families.

Things To Keep In Mind
Travel expenses will most likely cost more for your guests over holidays, making it harder for some to attend. If you will be getting married in a busy area, there is a good chance that there will be lots of traffic and more people than usual in town. Your own budget may see the strain too. Venues often charge a bit more to use a reception room on New Year's Eve, and flower prices tend to go up around Valentine's Day.

Do What Makes You Happy
If there is a holiday that is special to you as a couple, then that may be the best date for the two of you to choose. On the other hand, picking a day with no particular meaning to anyone else makes your wedding anniversary a holiday all its own.

As with most wedding decisions, if it makes you happy, then go ahead and do it. It's your special day. Venus Bridal realizes the importance of this day, and we do our best to help make it extra special through the exquisite bridal gowns that we offer. No matter what your style, personality, wedding date or venue, you will find something perfectly made just for you within our fabulous wedding dress collections
